" The themes that Rob tackles in his work are very relevant and often challenge perceptions, making them an essential tool for exploring topics and stimulating thought."
Matthew Thomason
I’m an independent dance artist based in the inspiring county of Cornwall where I create, collaborate, teach and play my part in generating various opportunities for local and visiting artists.
What runs through the core of most of what I do, is my drive to expand and understand more about my creative work. To gain deeper knowledge of my fascination in creating these stimulating and visual worlds for audience and performers. These worlds can sit in the palm of your hand via a smart phone, be a clifftop installation or inhabit a whole derelict structure.
Throughout all my projects, I thrive in the constructing of what I have foreseen and find growth in discovering what I hadn't within all aspects of a process/productions.
Collaborating with visual artists, composers, lighting designers, set designers and performers is of great importance to me and my work. These ever evolving conversations and expanding relationships with previous and new collaborators, reinforce and at times challenge my intentions. Often resulting in deeper discoveries with in the current project or generate a seed of an idea for another.
I enjoy extracting and moulding what lays between beauty and harshness. Drawing from captured moments of truth and placing them into these ambiguous worlds. Absorbing testing whilst allowing openings for individual interpretation by the viewer.
Any editing of film or imagery, feels as a second layer of choreography to my work, giving me further opportunity to establish my clear identity as a creator.
The other passion of my is teaching, focusing mainly these days in the South West include my role as Artistic Director of All Boys Dance, Co-Director of Hall For Cornwall Youth Dance Company and lead dance practitioner for Theatre Royal. My freelance role leave me open for welcomed inventions to teach at Plymouth Conservatoire, Exim and Freefall Dance as well as be a visiting artists at Cornwall College St Austell.
